James Earl Jones is an American actor who has starred in over 100 films and television shows. He is best known for his deep, resonant voice, which he has used to voice some of the most iconic characters in film history, including Darth Vader, Mufasa, and Thulsa Doom.

Jones was born in Arkabutla, Mississippi, on January 17, 1931. He began his acting career in the early 1950s, appearing in small roles in films and television shows. His breakthrough role came in 1964, when he starred in the Broadway play "The Great White Hope." For his performance, Jones won a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play.

Jones's film career took off in the late 1960s and early 1970s, when he appeared in such films as "The Defiant Ones" (1958), "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" (1967), and "The Sand Pebbles" (1966). In 1977, he voiced Darth Vader in the original "Star Wars" film. The role would become one of his most iconic, and he would reprise it in the sequels "The Empire Strikes Back" (1980) and "Return of the Jedi" (1983).

In the 1980s, Jones continued to star in a variety of films, including "Coming to America" (1988), "Field of Dreams" (1989), and "The Hunt for Red October" (1990). In the 1990s, he voiced Mufasa in the Disney animated film "The Lion King" (1994).
