Astros Hire Dana Brown as General Manager
Former Braves Executive Becomes MLB's Only Black GM
In a historic move, the Houston Astros have named Dana Brown as their new general manager. Brown, a longtime scouting executive with over two decades of experience, becomes just the second Black general manager in MLB history, following Michael Hill of the Marlins.
Brown's Braves Legacy
Brown spent the past four seasons with the Atlanta Braves, where he played a key role in the team's scouting and player development. He was instrumental in the Braves' World Series victory in 2021 and helped to foster the careers of young players, including All-Stars Ronald Acuña Jr. and Ozzie Albies.
Astros' Confidence in Brown
The Astros organization is confident that Brown's experience and leadership will help them continue their success. Astros owner Jim Crane stated, "Dana is a highly respected executive who has a proven track record of building winning teams. We believe he is the right person to lead our team moving forward."
Making History
Brown's appointment as general manager is not only significant for the Astros but also for MLB as a whole. His hiring marks a milestone in the league's ongoing efforts to increase diversity in leadership positions. As the only Black general manager in the majors, Brown is poised to be a role model for aspiring executives from all backgrounds.
